Collagen peptides are short-chain proteins produced by hydrolyzing native collagen, the main structural protein in skin, bone, tendon, and cartilage. The hydrolysis step breaks the triple-helical structure and cleaves longer chains into smaller fragments. The resulting material is water-soluble and typically has an average molecular weight in the low kilodalton range. Commercial ingredients are often described as hydrolyzed collagen or collagen hydrolysate. Amino acid composition remains rich in glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline, though the ordered helical arrangement is largely lost.
Raw collagen for peptide production comes from bovine hide, porcine skin, fish skin and scales, and sometimes poultry cartilage. The material is cleaned, extracted, and treated with acid, alkali, or enzymes to break peptide bonds. Enzymatic hydrolysis using proteases allows better control of fragment size than purely chemical methods. After hydrolysis, the liquid is filtered, concentrated, and dried into a powder. Source and processing conditions influence color, odor, molecular weight distribution, and amino acid profile.
Collagen peptides are short chains of amino acids produced by breaking down native collagen, a structural protein found in skin, bone, and connective tissue. The hydrolysis process cleaves the long triple-helical collagen molecule into smaller fragments. These fragments typically range from about 2 to 20 kilodaltons in molecular weight. Unlike intact collagen, collagen peptides dissolve in water and do not form gels. Commercial preparations appear as powders, granules, or liquids.
The amino acid profile of collagen peptides is distinctive. Glycine is the most abundant residue, followed by proline and hydroxyproline. Hydroxyproline is uncommon in other proteins and serves as a useful marker for collagen content. Cysteine and tryptophan are present only in trace amounts. The exact composition depends on the animal source, such as bovine hide, porcine skin, or fish scales, and on the hydrolysis conditions used. Marine sources often contain lower proline and hydroxyproline levels than mammalian sources.

==== Sheath-flow interface ==== With the sheath-flow interface, the electrical connection between an electrode and background electrolyte is established when the CE separation liquid is mixed with sheath liquid flowing coaxially in a metal capillary tubing. In most popular commercial CE-ESI-MS interfaces an additional outer tube (three-tube coaxial design) with sheath gas is used, which help to improve electrospray stability and solvent evaporation. But it has been found that flow of sheath gas can cause suction effect near the capillary terminus, which lead to parabolic flow profile and, as a consequence, low separation efficiency. Commonly used sheath liquid is 1:1 mixture of water-methanol (or isopropanol) with 0.1% acetic acid or formic acid. The system is more reliable and has wide selection range of separation electrolyte. However, since flow rates of sheath liquid required for a stable electrospray are usually quite high (1-10 μL/min), here might be some decrease in sensitivity due to dilution of samples with sheath liquid. Sheath liquid can be delivered hydrodynamically (with a syringe pump) or electrokinetically. Electrokinetic method allows one easily operate in nanoelectrospray regime (ESI flow rates at nl/min) and thus to improve sensitivity. There are some new approaches and improvements for sheath-flow interface. To reduce the dead volume and to increase sensitivity extendable sheath-flow CE-ESI-MS interface was created. The outlet end of the separation capillary was treated with hydrofluoric acid to decrease thin of the wall and to taper the tip.
== Awards == In 2017, ColdHubs was shortlisted for the UK Royal Academy of Engineering's Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation. It won the 2020 Waislitz Global Citizen Disruptor Award and was the inaugural AYuTe Africa Challenge winner in 2021.
==== Pan Sahel Initiative ==== In 2002, the United States created the Pan Sahel Initiative (PSI) which was aimed at counter-terrorism and enhancing regional peace and security in Mali, Mauritania, Niger and Chad. Green Berets from the 10th SFG attached to Special Operations Command Europe (SOCEUR) of the United States European Command (EUCOM) deployed to Niger and Mali and supervised anti-terror exercises in the Sahara Desert.

Anti-IFN activity of C protein is shared across the family Paramyxoviridae, and therefore appears to play an important role in paramyxovirus immune evasion. Human parainfluenza virus type 1 (HPIV1), which is a close relative of SeV and is (in contrast to SeV) a successful human pathogen, does not express V proteins, only C proteins. So, all needed functions provided by V in SeV can be provided by C in HPIV1. Thus, C and V have these "overlapping functions" because of the multi-faceted nature of host defense that can be countered at so many places, and exactly how well and where will in part explain host restriction. The C-protein also appears to be responsible for limiting the production of NO in infected macrophages, which in turn reduces inflammation.
== Uses == In Indonesia, Strobilanthes alternata is used to promote urination, check and heal hemorrhages, stop dysentery, and treat venereal diseases. The plant is popular in the United States and rarely the United Kingdom to use in hanging baskets for gardens. The botanical name of Red flame ivy is Hemigraphis colorata Blume.
== History == Yo-Chi's first store opened in September 2012, in the inner Melbourne suburb of Balaclava. In 2018, Yo-Chi was sold to chef and television personality George Calombaris, under his company MAdE Establishment Group. In 2020, following Calombaris' establishment going into voluntary administration, where Yo-Chi was the only part to survive, it was then sold to Oliver & Riley Allis, sons of Boost Juice founder Janine Allis. The brothers were just 23 and 21 years old respectively at the time of the sale. There were only four locations at the time. Under the Allis family, the number of stores have rapidly increased, opening their 30th store in June 2024, having 43 locations by March 2025, 53 by June 2025, 56 by August 2025, and opening their 70th store in March 2026. In August 2025, Yo-Chi began their international expansion, opening a store in Singapore and their first UK store in London's Notting Hill in 2026.

Collagen is a long, triple-helical structural protein. Collagen peptides are shorter fragments made by hydrolysis, which removes the helix and improves water solubility. The two materials differ in molecular size, viscosity, and behavior in solution.
No. Chain length, amino acid profile, and trace composition vary with raw material and hydrolysis conditions. Products from fish, bovine, and porcine sources can differ in odor, color, and thermal behavior. The term covers a broad family rather than one uniform substance.
Glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline are especially abundant. Hydroxyproline is uncommon in most other proteins and is often used as a marker for collagen content. The peptides also contain varying amounts of alanine, arginine, and other residues.
No. Native collagen is a large, triple-helical protein that is insoluble in water. Collagen peptides are shorter fragments produced by hydrolysis, and they dissolve readily. Digestion further breaks these peptides into amino acids and small peptides.
