Collagen peptides are short chains of amino acids produced by hydrolyzing collagen from animal connective tissues. The parent protein occurs in skin, bone, tendons, and cartilage, where it provides tensile strength. Hydrolysis breaks native triple-helical structures into smaller fragments, improving solubility in water. The resulting mixture consists mainly of glycine, proline, hydroxyproline, and other residues. Commercial ingredients are often described by average molecular weight rather than a single defined molecule.
Industrial production typically begins with raw materials such as bovine hide, porcine skin, fish skin, or eggshell membrane. A pretreatment step removes fat and non-collagenous proteins, after which enzymes or acid/alkali conditions cleave peptide bonds. Manufacturers then purify, concentrate, and dry the hydrolysate into a powder. The degree of hydrolysis influences peptide length, solubility, and taste. Because source and process vary, two collagen peptide powders can differ in amino acid profile and molecular weight distribution.
Production begins with cleaning and mincing raw collagen-rich tissues. The material undergoes pretreatment to remove non-collagenous components, followed by hydrolysis using enzymes such as pepsin or alcalase, or by acid or alkaline treatment. Reaction time, temperature, and pH influence the average molecular weight of the resulting peptides. After hydrolysis, the mixture is filtered, concentrated, and dried, often by spray drying. The final product is a powder with a characteristic amino acid profile rich in glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline.
Collagen peptides are distinguished from gelatin by their lower average molecular weight and better solubility in cold water. Gelatin forms gels upon cooling, while collagen peptides typically do not. Molecular weight distributions for commercial collagen peptides often range from about 2 to 20 kilodaltons, though exact profiles vary by manufacturer and process. Products may be sold as powders, capsules, or liquids. The term "collagen hydrolysate" is frequently used as a synonym, although labeling conventions differ across regions.

Storage and stability practices focus on limiting moisture, heat, and contamination. Dry collagen peptide powder is hygroscopic and can cake or brown if exposed to humid air or reducing sugars at elevated temperatures. Sealed containers kept in a cool, dry place are standard, and opened containers should be protected from ambient humidity. Liquid formulations are more vulnerable to microbial growth and may require refrigeration or preservatives. Typical unopened shelf life is around two years, though stability depends on packaging, temperature, and the specific peptide mixture.
Quality control for collagen peptide ingredients combines identity, purity, and composition tests. Molecular weight distribution is a primary specification because hydrolysis determines peptide chain length, which influences solubility and flow properties. Amino acid analysis confirms the expected high levels of glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline. Moisture, ash, pH, and microbial limits are checked to ensure consistent handling and shelf life. No single assay captures every relevant property, so manufacturers typically use a panel of methods.
Species origin is not always easy to confirm in finished hydrolysates because hydrolysis fragments DNA as well as protein. Polymerase chain reaction tests targeting species-specific DNA may fail when the template is too short. Amino acid profiles, stable isotope ratios, and trace element patterns can offer indirect clues, but they are not definitive on their own. Adulteration with cheaper nitrogen-rich ingredients is a documented concern in some protein markets. Buyers often rely on supplier audits, certificates of analysis, and third-party testing to verify source and purity.
Several terms describe related products, and their distinctions matter. Gelatin is partially hydrolyzed collagen that still forms a gel when dissolved in hot water and cooled. Collagen peptides, also called collagen hydrolysate, are further broken down and remain soluble without gelling. The term 'collagen' alone usually refers to the intact, insoluble protein. Commercial collagen peptides are often standardized by molecular weight range rather than by a single molecular species, so batch-to-batch variation occurs.
Collagen peptides are short chains of amino acids produced by breaking down native collagen, a structural protein found in skin, bone, and connective tissue. The hydrolysis process cleaves the long triple-helical collagen molecule into smaller fragments. These fragments typically range from about 2 to 20 kilodaltons in molecular weight. Unlike intact collagen, collagen peptides dissolve in water and do not form gels. Commercial preparations appear as powders, granules, or liquids.
=== Quantitative analysis === Quantitative approach requires large number of grain analyses within a sample rock in order to represent the overall detrital zircon population statistically (i.e. the total number of analyses should achieve an appropriate level of confidence). Because of the large sample size, secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) and laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICPMS) are used instead of thermal ionization mass spectrometry (TIMS). In this case, BSE and CL imagery are applied to select the best spot on a zircon grain for acquiring reliable age.
. This is also equivalent to the assumption that the length of time spent by an individual in the infectious state is a random variable with an exponential distribution. The "classical" SIR model may be modified by using more complex and realistic distributions for the I-R transition rate (e.g. the Erlang distribution). For the special case in which there is no removal from the infectious compartment (
Robert Allan Humphreys (1930–1988), known as Laud Humphreys, was an American sociologist and Episcopal priest. He is noted for his research into sexual encounters between men in public bathrooms, published as Tearoom Trade (1970), and for the questions that emerged regarding the ethical nature of his research methods. He influenced generations of scholars who research issues related to sexuality and sexual identity.
==== Output ==== After an incident particle has fused with a parent nucleus, if the excitation energy is sufficient, the nucleus breaks into fragments. This is called scission, and occurs at about 10−20 seconds. The fragments can emit prompt neutrons at between 10−18 and 10−15 seconds. At about 10−11 seconds, the fragments can emit gamma rays. At 10−3 seconds β decay, β-delayed neutrons, and gamma rays are emitted from the decay products. Typical fission events release about two hundred million eV (200 MeV) of energy for each fission event. The exact isotope which is fissioned, and whether or not it is fissionable or fissile, has only a small impact on the amount of energy released. This can be easily seen by examining the curve of binding energy (image below), and noting that the average binding energy of the actinide nuclides beginning with uranium is around 7.6 MeV per nucleon. Looking further left on the curve of binding energy, where the fission products cluster, it is easily observed that the binding energy of the fission products tends to center around 8.5 MeV per nucleon. Thus, in any fission event of an isotope in the actinide mass range, roughly 0.9 MeV are released per nucleon of the starting element. The fission of 235U by a slow neutron yields nearly identical energy to the fission of 238U by a fast neutron. This energy release profile holds for thorium and the various minor actinides as well.

=== Other uses === GnRH antagonists are being investigated in the treatment of women with hormone-sensitive breast cancer. In men, they are being investigated in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia and also as potential contraceptive agents. GnRH antagonists could be used as puberty blockers in transgender youth and to suppress sex hormone levels in transgender adolescents and adults.
As a result of the Partition of India in 1947, the formations, units, assets, and indigenous personnel of the Indian Army were divided between the Dominion of India and the Dominion of Pakistan. As Brian Lapping wrote, "By comparison with the two great provinces [Bengal & Punjab], partition of the army and the civil service was easy, though by any other standard, it was difficult, wasteful, and destructive. ... The men were transferred in their units. Regiments of Sikh and Hindu soldiers from the north-west frontier had to make their way through Muslim territory to get out of what was to be Pakistan." Also in 1947 a final agreement was signed regarding the Gurkha regiments in the British Indian Army. Four Gurkha regiments, recruited from both eastern and western Nepal, would join the British Army. The remaining six Gurkha regiments of the British Indian Army joined the Dominion of India. During the transition period after partition, those Gurkha regiments that were in Pakistan, did their service, but were eventually moved back to India. The partition reduced the ethnic imbalance of the British Indian Army, which became the present-day Indian Army. But, the partition resulted in more ethnic imbalance in the Pakistani military, mainly because the new nation state of Pakistan was formed by joining West Punjab, NWFP, East Bengal, Baluchistan, and Sind. The new Pakistan Army was mainly made up of soldiers from two of these provinces. The Bangladesh Army, which was created from the Pakistan Army on the independence of Bangladesh, retain many British Indian Army traditions.
The mechanism that affects courtship behavior in Drosophila is controlled by the oscillator neurons DN1s and LNDs. Oscillation of the DN1 neurons was found to be effected by sociosexual interactions, and is connected to mating-related decrease of evening activity.
=== Since Silk Road === From late 2013 through to 2014, new markets started launching with regularity, such as the Silk Road 2.0, run by the former Silk Road site administrators, as well as the Agora marketplace. Such launches were not always a success; in February 2014 Utopia, the highly anticipated market based on Black Market Reloaded, opened only to shut down eight days later following rapid actions by Dutch law enforcement. February 2014 also marked the short lifespans of Black Goblin Market and CannabisRoad, two sites which closed after being deanonymized without much effort. November 2014 briefly shook the darknet market ecosystem, when Operation Onymous, executed by the United States' FBI and UK's National Crime Agency, led to the seizure of 27 hidden sites, including Silk Road 2.0, one of the largest markets at the time, as well 12 smaller markets and individual vendor sites. By September 2014, Agora was reported to be the largest market, avoiding Operation Onymous; as of April 2015, Agora has gone on to be the largest overall marketplace, with more listings than the Silk Road at its height. Further market diversification occurred in 2015, as did further developments around escrow and decentralization. In March 2015, the Evolution marketplace performed an "exit scam", stealing escrowed bitcoins worth $12 million, half of the ecosystem's listing market share at that time. The closure of Evolution led to users redistributing to Black Bank and Agora.
Quantum chemistry can also provide insight into the mechanism of an organic transformation without the collection of any experimental data. Because wavefunctions provide the total energy of a given molecular state, guessed molecular geometries can be optimized to give relaxed molecular structures very similar to those found through experimental methods. Reaction coordinates can then be simulated, and transition state structures solved. Solving a complete energy surface for a given reaction is therefore possible, and such calculations have been applied to many problems in organic chemistry where kinetic data is unavailable or difficult to acquire.

His distribution policy lasted for at least a few centuries, but scholars are unsure if the policy continued thereafter. Wine was not as freely distributed as olive oil, but was sold for a very low price starting around 300 CE.
The original fragile and heavy glass containers presented challenges for transportation, and glass jars were largely replaced in commercial canneries with cylindrical tin can or wrought-iron canisters (later shortened to "cans") following the work of Peter Durand (1810). Cans are cheaper and quicker to make, and much less fragile than glass jars. Can openers were not invented for another thirty years. At first, soldiers would cut the cans open with bayonets or smash them open with rocks. Today, tin-coated steel is the material most commonly used. Aseptically processed retort pouches are also used for canning. Glass jars have remained popular for some high-value products and in home canning.

=== In relation with basic emotions === Efforts to increase positive emotions will not automatically result in decreased negative emotions, nor will decreased negative emotions necessarily result in increased positive emotions. Russell and Feldman Barrett (1992) described emotional reactions as core affects, which are primitive emotional reactions that are consistently experienced but often not acknowledged; they blend pleasant and unpleasant as well as activated and deactivated dimensions that we carry with us at an almost unconscious level. While a 2012 study found that wellbeing was higher for people who experienced both positive and negative emotions, evidence suggests negative emotions can be damaging. In an article titled "The undoing effect of positive emotions", Barbara Fredrickson et al. hypothesized positive emotions undo the cardiovascular effects of negative emotions. When people experience stress, they show increased heart rate, higher blood sugar, immune suppression, and other adaptations optimized for immediate action. If unregulated, the prolonged physiological activation can lead to illness, coronary heart disease, and heightened mortality. Both lab and survey research substantiate that positive emotions help people under stress to return to a preferable, healthier physiological baseline. Other research shows that improved mood is one of the various benefits of physical exercise.
== Indications == D-dimer testing is of clinical use when there is a suspicion of deep venous thrombosis (DVTl), pulmonary embolism (PE) or disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). For DVT and PE, there are possible various scoring systems that are used to determine the a priori clinical probability of these diseases; the best-known is the Wells score.

They are derived from collagen-rich animal tissues, commonly bovine hide, porcine skin, fish skin, or eggshell membrane. Processing removes non-collagen proteins and breaks the collagen into smaller water-soluble fragments. The final ingredient is a mixture, not a single peptide.
Native collagen has a triple-helical structure and is largely insoluble in cold water. Hydrolysis disrupts that structure and shortens the chains, producing peptides that dissolve more readily. The two materials also differ in molecular weight and functional behavior in foods.
They are not considered complete proteins because they are low in or lack certain essential amino acids, including tryptophan. They can still contribute amino acids when eaten with other protein sources. Labels usually list protein content rather than a complete amino acid score.
They are typically produced from animal connective tissues, such as bovine hide, porcine skin, or fish scales. The raw material is hydrolyzed to break down native collagen into smaller peptide chains.
